Profils Systèmes certified ISO 50001 for her energy commitment

29 august 2023 - Profils Systemes News

Naturally following on from its environmental commitments, Profils Systèmes, the French eco-affirmative manufacturer of aluminium joinery, takes continual actions directed at improving its energy performance, as a result of which its roll-out of an energy management system has been ISO 50001 certified. Keeping tight control over its energy consumption and implementing energy efficiency and security criteria are objectives set by this joinery range manufacturer based in France’s Hérault department, and its efforts have been duly recognized by this certification, awarded on 25th July, 2023.

With ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certificates already obtained for its management systems in respect of quality, the environment, and health & safety at work, and further illustrating Profils Systèmes’ will to achieve excellence in all aspects of its business, the ISO 50001 certificate, valid for 3 years, was attributed following an external audit from 3rd–10th July this year at its Baillargues site (48,000m² of premises, over 400 staff).

This audit underscored the relevance of the energy consumption reduction plan drawn up by Profils Systèmes. The company’s choice of relying on green1 electricity was lauded, as was the total replacement of its light fittings by LED bulbs, slashing energy usage while maintaining lighting levels.

Reduction of gas consumption and ecological transition

On the gas energy front, consumption has been on the decrease since 2012 thanks to heavy investment in modernizing the baking process on the vertical powder coating line and the withdrawal of a furnace together with the installation of revolving doors. A further boost to this impetus came in 2015 with the acquisition of a new aluminium billet preheating furnace featuring a combustion emission recovery system, making it less energy-hungry and higher performing.

Another factor taken into account was the upgrading of the firm’s vehicle fleet—from forklift trucks to company cars—with models having electric or hybrid power units (as of summer, 2023, two-thirds have already been replaced, the target being 100% by 2025).

Solar energy and sustainable vision

Last but not least, Profils Systèmes will continue to invest in decreasing its ecological footprint, notably by installing 18,000 square metres of photovoltaic panels this summer across the factory roofs and on top of parking shelters. At stake is a total of 4.84 MWh of generated electricity by year, enough to cover half of Profils Systèmes’ overall consumption.

Always with a close eye on the responsible management of resources, Profils Systèmes counts more than ever on seeking innovative solutions while maintaining the strictest environmental and sustainability standards.
